Encouragement and Comfort
It's encouraging to see you all find encouragement and comfort in fellowship with Bible-believers.
I read everything, though I have less time these days to write.
Witnessing over here in my part of the world is going great. I continually pray for greater boldness.
One of the best ways is hitch-hiker picking. I pick'em up and lock the doors
ahahahaha...Ehem, just kidding.
So far two fellows got saved, one with whom I'm keeping contact since he gave me his mobile number.
So much of it is sheer plowing though.
You must plow through people thinking you're a Jehovah's witness, through people thinking they can be saved by works, through people associating Christianity with the Vatican, etc...
I love those hymns, now THAT'S worship music. Have had "My Jesus I Love Thee" in mind for a couple of days now. You know what I have written on my choir sheets?
Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,
and a twoedged sword in their hand
Psalm 149:6
A Bible in one hand and a hymnal in the other.
Name your 10 favorite hymns of all time
Favorite?
'Great is thy faithfulness'
'We rest on thee our shield and our defender'
'A mighty Fortress is our God'
'The Day thou Gavest Lord is ended'
'Prayer is the soul's Sincere Desire'
'Who is on the Lord's Side'
'For my sake and the Gospel's go'
'According to thy gracious Word'
'God moves in a Mysterious Way'
'Tell me the Old, Old Story'
It's so great to hear from you. You never fail to crack me up. You have a "pshyco ministry" there going on, haha. It's illegal to hitch-hike in Quebec, so enjoy your freedom! I'm glad that your witnessing is going great, it's very encouraging to hear that.
Hum, 10 favorite hymns, that's a though one. I'll try. They will not be in chronological order. I may actually repeat a few that Matthew already named. Here goes:
1 And can it be that I should gain
2 How great thou art! (hey this hymn ends with an exclamation point. hurray!)
3 I've a home beyond the river
4 Who is on the Lord's side
5 Christ returneth! (aha!another one with an exclamation point)
6 Tell me the old, old story
7 When we see Christ
8 O the deep, deep love of Jesus
9 Sweet hour of prayer
10 The old rugged cross
11 O for a thousand toungues to sing
12 Crown him with many crowns
Ooops, you said ten. Told you this is hard.
*A Bible in one hand and a hymnal in the other.* I like that very much!
Those would be
And can it be
Great is thy faithfulness
Be still my soul (All-time favorite)
This is my father's world
Amazing Grace
How Great thou art
Blessed Assurance
I don't know the title but it starts like this: When the morning falls on the farthest hill, I will sing His name, I will praise Him still.
The Battle Belongs to the Lord
I'll Fly away
The old rugged cross.....
by the way, speaking of hymns, please read my post on the blog (in reply to the previous post made)
Joe
*please read my post on the blog (in reply to the previous post made). Which one are you refering to, lol. Sorry, easily confused over here! I wrote something entitled "Rock music" a while ago, is that what you are refering to?
Your cousin that misses u like crazy and cannot wait to see u again, or then she will go crazy, who some already think she is crazy,
Sarah
You may go read my response.
A couple that jump to my mind right now include "The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell". I think it is based on Psalm 45 by the Sons of Korah. (Sons of Korah are my favorite song writers).
"The Haven of Rest" is another one. By the way, should I suddenly go to be with the Lord instead of being raptured out, pease have this hymn sung at my funeral. It goes something like this I've anchored my soul on the haven of rest, I'll sail the wild seas no more. The tempest may sweep over the wild stormy deep, but ... Jesus is my haven of rest.
Is it your German blood calling?
I think I shall sing it now.
God Bless
Matthew
I'll be sure to keep that in mind.
On a more serious note, I too love The Haven of rest.
I want my epitah (is that how u spell it), to say: Why seek ye the living among the dead? Luke 24:5
I think some dead guy in England has that.
"There Is Power In The Blood"
"When We All Get to Heaven"
"Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus"
"All Hail The Power Of Jesus' Name"
"The Solid Rock [My Hope Is Built]"
"Standing On The Promises"
"It Is Well With My Soul"
"Amazing Grace"
"Because He Lives"
"When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder"
[That's 12, not 10, but it was hard enough to narrow it down to those.]
Those good old hymns are so beautiful. Regarding the hymn there's power in the blood, I want to share the following anecdote. At a Bible Conference in Ohio the choir leader really got into the song and he asked the congregation that when we hit the chorus instead of singing the word pow'r as a regular word, we go fast pow, pow, pow. It sounded like bullets fired out of a shot gun. It was much fun, and the congregation loved it.
Jesus saves
victory in Jesus
stand up for Jesus
O the deep deep love of Jesus
my Jesus, I love thee
sound the battle cry
saved saved
praise Him praise Him
power in the blood
O worship the King
love divine
who is on the Lord's side
must I go and empty-handed
is your all on the altar
how sure a foundation
Christ returneth
it is well with my soul
how great thou art
Holy Holy Holy
He lives
hold the fort
heavenly sunlight
crown Him with many crowns
come Thou fount
beulah land
be Thou my vision
be still my soul
and can it be that I should gain
all hail the power
a might fortress is our God
Ok so maybe that should've been your favourite 31 hymns...
I had to cut out about 10.
Naturally, you can add as many as you want
Hey Redeemed, you should add the hymn "Redeemed" to your list :)
And I thought I went overboard with 12! Hehe, those are all great Hymns indeed.
You know what we do at the church for "Hold the Fort". For "wave the answer back to heaven", we all wave our King James Bibles in the air!!!!
